Short bar braced bending and Kirill Shuhovtsev in one sentence is very common, because when it comes to this style in bending he is a guy you should know.
It´s not just the force you can generate with your legs, it´s also the extremly high force your hands have to handle in this positions in braced bending.
I heard from several benders in this style that they are go all in till the bones in the hand start slowly moving and this is on the one side very dangerous, but they can adapt the whole body to reach this level and on the other side they know exactly what their body can do.
Kirill has bent real hard and short steel, so if you want to get familar and or better in this style you should contact him.

Question 01:
What does steel bending mean to you?
Test yourself.
Question 02:
When and why did you start steel bending and what does or did your active time look like?
I was interested in grippers at first. Training a little bit. In 2016 I saw some bends in Russian social groups for the first time. It was double overhand – most powerful hand style. I trained DO for about a year and took a break. In 2018 I assembled a calibration machine for legcrush with 500kg crane scales and I started training. Finished in 2020 due to health problems. Pressure increased greatly when train with huge bars. Capillaries burst on the forehead, headache for several days. I stopped killing myself.
Question 03:
What do you love about steel bending?
Cheap and affordable sport. You don’t need to go somewhere to train.
Question 04:
What do you hate about steel bending?
Bloody palms and flayed skin photos. Many benders think this is cool. I got injured. Look at that. A hand pierced through would look even cooler I think. In fact, the average man looks at it and twirls his finger to his temple. For this reason, many people have not tried bending. We didn’t see many great bents. Very sad.
Question 05:
How does your training for steel bending look like?
A hard workout looks like this. I take one bar which I can bend in 10-15 hard reps. It takes 20-30 minutes with rest.
Question 06:
How does your other training look like (strength or other)?
Kettlebells sometimes. Summer – time for a bicycle.
Question 07:
What goals have you set for yourself?
Move as far as health is enough. Try the toughest serial bars. FBBC, Noble Force, DHWoG and others. FBBC Mother of all Bastards сertification.
Question 08:
What was the most impressive bend you ever saw (live or on video)?
It was bent of my calibrated 12mm CRS (200x12mm steel20 full bent, 215x12mm steel45 kink) by Alex Volkov. He have most powerful kink and I sent some monster bars to try. He said that he felt the pelvic bones move apart during the trial of steel45.
I bought 4 types of 12mm CRS in the summer 2019 and calibrate this in 180mm.
1. 410kg(kink=350kg). steel10
2. 480kg(kink=415kg). steel20
3. 500kg=4o. steel35
4. 500kg=3o. steel45
For comparison with IM bars:
7”Red Nail(2020)=139kg(kink 122kg)
7”Red Nail(2017)=150kg(kink 131kg)
7”Gold Nail(2020)=270kg(kink 225kg)
7”Gold Nail(2017)=250kg(kink 210kg)

Question 10:
The last words belong to you. What do you want the reader take away? Let us know your poems of steel!
First moment – Concentrate your mental power in one way. Choose one of the safe bending styles – DU, DO or Legcrush and using wraps. Safety first. Second moment - load progression. This is an essential component of bending training. We have small disks and it’s not a problem in the gym. We need to use many kinds of steel for best progress in bending training. Third moment – assemble your own calibrating machine. You need to know what you bent. Cat in bag working bad. Training with calibrated steel only. You can build the best training plan for best progress without injuries. And the last moment – if you have to bend something that you have never bent before – don't be scared. Steel should be afraid of you!
